Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party
From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.
